Today I woke up at 2 am. It’s now 7:25 am, I started a new Skyrim adventure half an hour ago and just went on the balcony and enjoyed the rain, the raindrops dripping onto and off of the leaves and just the general quiet and peaceful atmosphere of this morning. My words really don’t do the experience justice. I’m just happy right now and feel like spreading positivity, happiness and good vibes 🙂

I also had the thought that I’m so thankful to be alive and able to go out on the balcony and experience this. My mind then wandered to the fact that fantasy works like Skyrim or Lord Of The Rings usually have a much more detailed and longer (recorded) history than us. Don’t worry I’m not saying our history is boring, earth lore still goes the hardest. I just feel like it’s so amazing that in all those millenia of recorded history those fantasy worlds stayed pretty much the same. They just remained medieval (or whatever earthly time period they are comparable to) and that’s it. I mean I get it, it’s fantasy. But my mind was blown at how much humanity achieved in such little time.

I think people really forget that we basically invented all digital things and most of our modern technology in about 100-150 years or so. Humanity has existed for tens of thousands of years, yet our recorded history is about 2000-3000 years long. You really have to think about how incredible this all is. How mindblowing computers, smartphones, the internet and everything else is. And we made that in 100 years!! Out of 90,000 or so years!

I just looked it up and homo sapiens has actually been around for 200,000 years, homo habilis (not the modern human but still part of our genus, homo) has been around for 2.8 million years (!!) and then the precursor to our genus has evolved 7 million years ago! Out of those millions of years it took about 60-70 thousand to develop agriculture, etc. and then only 2000-3000 to develop a little more and then the last 100-150 years to transform into a modern society with all it’s glory.

I mean of course there are problems. Of course we have AI and wars and nuclear weapons and internet addiction to worry about. But this is literally the dawn of a new era, obviously we will struggle with our rampant and overwhelming development?

I don’t know, I feel very lucky to be alive in this time. It’s exciting. It feels almost unreal how incredible this development is. And people have gotten so used to it that they don’t even realize what a miracle all of this is. My new favourite science fiction work is humanity man, who knows what’s still to come. Seems like we are just getting started.
