“The man who invented college….”
Hopsin was greatly oversimplifying. He was also trying to make a rap song, not a speech. So he probably could not elaborate on that any more than putting it into an inaccurate quip….
But clearly this YouTubers were too simple-minded to understand what he meant. No, Hopsin does not believe “one mean invented college.”
His whole point was that, the history of scholars who eventually did put together the world’s first universities did not go to universities themselves, because they didn’t exist. There was a point in history where being a scholar was accomplishmed almost entirely by one’s self. And the further you go back into history, the more that is true. Back to the Greeks, where the smartest minds became the smartest minds by seeking eachother out and mostly by experimenting themselves. Organized schooling didn’t exist.
So, there was absolutely a point in history where humans still had major scientific successes without having any sort of organized college to attend. Hopsin’s entire point was that you don’t have to believe that college is your ONLY option. You can self teach yourself. As a homeschool student, I can attest to this.
I personally think it would be healthy for people to realize they don’t always have to drop thousands of dollars to sit infront of a professor who is going to read you to the text out of a 15 year old book, when for 1/20 of the price you can buy the most recent version of that same textbook and just fucking read it yourself. I personally dropped college classes during my time in college to literally just go school myself, as I realized that attending class was –slowing me down–
Now, that might also because I was homeschooled for a period in my life… So I know how to teach myself more than most people. But that’s part of the issue Hopsin is talking about. People have grown to rely so much on believing that you can only develop skills through an organized schooling system.
For example, with mathematics, I never felt I had to actually go to a class to learn anything until I finally got into actual Calculus. At that point, I wanted to have a teacher to ask questions to. Before that, I just never ran into the point where I couldn’t go find the information somewhere myself in a book or online.
That’s really Hopsin’s point. Self-teaching is a skill, it isn’t something you are just born with, it is something your parents and your community have to help you learn to do. Today’s world relies TOO MUCH on organized school. And the fact is, organized school and teach you AGENDAS, not just knowledge. If all major school systems share some political agendas, you can gaurantee they will instill those agendas in their cirriculum.
I personally believe homeschooling helped me develop individualism, as I wasn’t always fed filtered beliefs my whole life. I saw the world through news outlets and whatnot, I developed my own opinion.
So, no, you fucking baboons. He isn’t talking about some mystical figure who appeared on Earth and suddenly “invented college”. He just phrased it poorly, but what he meant was pretty damn obvious, at least to people like me. EVERY HUMAN BEING should be taught how to research and experiment BY THEMSELVES, at least as much as they are taught to rely on official sources, like college.
