Out of every Star Wars major media project, there have only been two That were universally loved from the jump, A New Hope and The Mandalorian. The rest were loved later on.
1. ESB, at its initial release had some criticism
2. ROTJ is still thought as the weakest OT film and is criticized
3. TPM is regarded as the worst film by many
4. AOTC is also regarded as the worst film by many
5. ROTS also gets a lot of hate as it’s a prequel film
6. TCW received tons of hate early on and wasn’t universally loved until after it was cancelled
7. Rebels also got a lot of hate until season 4
8. Then of course all the sequels get hate
9. R1 gets hated on by people who think the characters are lacking
10. Solo gets hated on as too cliche and a checklist film.
11. Resistance was hated on as soon as the first poster came out.
The funny thing is that the trend for Star Wars is that the older fans will hate on the new stuff because it’s not the Star Wars they grew up with. Then after years go by the kids that grew up with the then new stuff love them because it’s their Star Wars. There will be a day when we have entire generations of fans who never knew a world that didn’t have this much Star Wars content and they will love it all. It’s a cycle that never ends
