Serious question here (sorry it’s not a shitpost). I felt it may be relevant to this group. If not allowed, just remove it or roast me in the comments. I apologize for the length, but kudos for reading if you do. Social media gives me a voice and I’m gonna use it spew mental garbage. How do young adults graduate college these days (mainly talking about liberal arts degrees) and end up hating America? Usually pro-socialism as well? The reason why I ask this is because I’m on the later end of finishing a history degree from ASU and basically almost every world history class makes the ultimate point that America has been the most positive influence on global culture in the course of 200ish years. Most classes once you reach post-1700s, you see how the American Revolutionary War influenced the globe. This is in terms of individual rights, property rights, civil rights, feminism, raising millions out of poverty and several other key topics. No matter what class I’ve taken, be it Asian, African, Islamic, Russian or European history, once you reach 1700s you begin to see the influence America has on the globe. Also, \*YES I UNDERSTAND AMERICA HAS DONE SOME FUCKED UP SHIT\*, but the overall point always made is that the founding fathers of America knew wtf they were doing because there’s been several millennia of political abuse to study from.On top of these liberal arts graduates base hatred for America, their hatred for capitalism is completely unjust. If you were born in America post-19th Century, it’s likely you weren’t shitting out windows and cleaning bodies off the streets for a living. Shit, one class I took about “Empires of Southeast Asia” made the point that European capitalism squashed slavery in 20th century Indonesia. How horrible that must’ve been right?I’m also taking a class this semester titled “From Stalin to Putin” and all it has been so far is detailing the horrors of communism. Almost 30mil Russians dead before WW2 even kicks off. Millions more during and after the war. Cold War era Communism forced you to work (sometimes in gulags) and would cruelly punish you for showing up late to your job. Sacrifice the welfare of your citizens for industrial advancement. You guys made it to space first, woo-hoo… America just took notes and did it better (and with women involved). I just don’t see where the good in communism is supposed to kick in? Even arguing for low level Socialism is just historically stupid in terms of economic growth.Idk. I was browsing the web and decided to dump my thoughts somewhere while I’m finishing up this degree. My only conclusion is that liberal arts students these days must be taking some funky ass modern-day feminism courses that I’m not aware of and claiming they’re college graduates. All I know is that I wanna learn about cool shit like the politics behind shit like WW1, not about shit like Frida Khalo. Give me the overall point in history about how civilizations rise and fall.I’ve been working a full time job while being a full time student so my brain is in full stress mode right now. It’s been a fun ride and I’m ashamed I didn’t do this degree when I was younger (although I think being older I appreciate it more). I took the military route out of high school first instead.
