Anime has become too mainstream in school

I just got home from school and needed to vent. So, it all started when I saw this girl wearing a Naruto shirt. Cool, I thought. Not enough gjrls like anime. I approached her and told her I liked Naruto too. Then I asked her what her top 3 anime are. She told me the only anime she had watched was the first 4 episodes of Attack on Titan with her boyfriend. So I calmly started calling her out for being a fake weeb and how she probably wouldn’t have watched anime 2 years ago because it was more uncool back then. I told her she was only doung it because it was trendy now. Then her boyfriend walked over and told me to leave her alone. Normally, under other circumstances, I would have thanked this guy for introducing a female to anime. (Seriously ladies, go watch some anime! It’s great. Don’t do what this girl did, though) But here he was, defending his fake fan/poser of a girlfriend. I told him she was just a fake fan and walked away. Doesn’t anyone else feel this way when they meet a fake fan of anything? I feel like way too many cool things I like are becoming mainstream, and in a bad way. Don’t wear any band shirts or anime shirts if you’re not familiar with that band or anime. It’s that simple.
