I โฌ…๐Ÿ…ฑ wanted to ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ’ธ share a ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ‘Œ note I ๐Ÿ‘ wrote ๐Ÿ““๐Ÿ“ to ๐ŸŽŠ everyone ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ’‚ at our company. ๐Ÿข โ€” Hey ๐Ÿ‘ everyone: ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿ‘ฅ itโ€™s been quite ๐Ÿ’ฌ a ๐Ÿ‘Œ week, โค and I ๐Ÿ’ wanted ๐Ÿ˜ณ to ๐Ÿ’ฐ share some ๐Ÿ’ฅ thoughts with ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ˜ค all ๐Ÿ’ฏ of ๐ŸŽซ you. First, ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ• the SEV that ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿ‘ took ๐Ÿ˜ฒ down all our services yesterday ๐Ÿ•ฃ๐Ÿ˜จ was the ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿ‘ worst ๐Ÿ‘น๐Ÿ† outage weโ€™ve had ๐Ÿ”™๐Ÿ”™ in ๐Ÿ’Š years. โณ Weโ€™ve ๐Ÿ™‹โŒ spent the ๐Ÿ‘ past 24 hours ๐Ÿ•‘๐Ÿ˜ž debriefing how we ๐Ÿ‘ฎ๐Ÿ‘ด can ๐Ÿ‘€ strengthen our ๐Ÿ’ฉ systems against this ๐Ÿ‘ˆ๐Ÿ› kind of failure. This was ๐Ÿ’ฏ also โž• a reminder of how ๐Ÿ’ช much our work ๐Ÿข๐Ÿญ matters ๐Ÿ’ž๐Ÿ’ž to ๐Ÿ‘‰ people. The ๐Ÿ‘ซ deeper concern ๐Ÿ˜• with an ๐Ÿ‘น outage like this isnโ€™t how ๐Ÿ’ฏ many people ๐Ÿ‘ต switch ๐ŸŽš to ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ’ฆ competitive services or ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ† how ๐Ÿ‘ much ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ money ๐Ÿ’ต we ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿ™‹ lose, ๐Ÿšซ but โ˜๐Ÿ’ what it ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘ means for the ๐Ÿš€ people ๐Ÿ“ฃ๐Ÿ˜ฑ who ๐Ÿ”Ž rely on our ๐Ÿ‚ services to communicate ๐Ÿ—ฃ with loved โค ones, ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ’ฏ run ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ their ๐Ÿ‘ˆ๐Ÿ† businesses, or support ๐Ÿ”ฅโ™€ their ๐Ÿป communities. Second, โฑ๐Ÿ…ฑ now ๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ข that โžก todayโ€™s testimony is ๐Ÿ™ over, ๐Ÿ’ฏ I ๐Ÿ‘โŒจ wanted to reflect on ๐Ÿ”›โฌ‡ the ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ public debate weโ€™re ๐Ÿ‘ฉ in. ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿ”™ Iโ€™m sure many of you ๐Ÿ’ฏ have ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿ™Œ found ๐Ÿ‘ the recent coverage hard ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐ŸŒฐ to ๐Ÿ“ด read because ๐ŸŽ‰โœก it just ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜ถ doesnโ€™t reflect the ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ™Š company ๐Ÿญ we ๐Ÿ‘ง know. ๐Ÿ‘ž We care deeply ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ about ๐Ÿค” issues ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ like ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜ค safety, well-being ๐Ÿ”ฅ and ๐Ÿ‘ mental โš–โš– health. โ›‘โ›‘ Itโ€™s ๐Ÿ˜คโžก difficult to see ๐Ÿ‘ coverage that misrepresents our ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿ’ฐ work ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ‘จ and ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’จ our ๐Ÿ‚๐ŸŒ motives. At ๐Ÿ‘‰ the ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’Œ most basic level, ๐Ÿ”ป I ๐Ÿ‘ think most ๐Ÿ”๐ŸฆŠ of ๐Ÿ‘ us ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ‘ฉ just ๐Ÿป๐Ÿคท donโ€™t ๐Ÿ˜ก recognize ๐ŸŒš the ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿป false picture of ๐ŸŒพ the ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ‘Œ company that is ๐Ÿ˜ being ๐Ÿ‘ painted. Many ๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿ’ฏ of the ๐Ÿ˜ฌ claims donโ€™t make ๐Ÿ’ฐ any ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ“จ sense. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿค— If we wanted ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿ˜ƒ to ignore research, why would ๐Ÿ‘ช we ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ™‹ create ๐Ÿ“ฒ๐Ÿ“ฒ an ๐Ÿ– industry-leading research program to ๐Ÿ’ฆ understand these ๐Ÿ”ซ important issues ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ in the ๐Ÿ’ฆโ™‚ first ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ˜Š place? ๐Ÿ™Œ If we didnโ€™t care ๐Ÿ… about ๐Ÿ’ฆ fighting harmful content, ๐Ÿ— then ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ˜ฏ why would we ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿ‘ด employ so ๐Ÿ˜ many ๐Ÿบโ” more people ๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿ˜ฉ dedicated ๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ… to ๐Ÿ”ฃ๐Ÿ…ฑ this than any ๐ŸŒโ™€ other ๐Ÿ‘ˆ๐Ÿ’ฐ company ๐Ÿข in ๐Ÿ‘‰ our ๐Ÿ’ฉ๐Ÿ’ฉ space โ€” even ones ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ’š larger than โ™€๐Ÿ˜ฝ us? If ๐Ÿ™„ we ๐Ÿ™‹ wanted ๐Ÿ‘ฉ to hide our ๐Ÿ‘ด results, ๐Ÿ”ข why โ“๐Ÿ˜ข would ๐Ÿœ we have ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ™ˆ established an ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ† industry-leading standard for ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿป transparency and ๐Ÿ’ฐ reporting on โฌ‡๐ŸŽถ what ๐Ÿคทโœ‰ weโ€™re doing? ๐Ÿ˜‰ And ๐Ÿ’ฐ if social media ๐Ÿ˜˜ were ๐Ÿพ as ๐Ÿ‘จ responsible ๐Ÿคฆ for ๐Ÿ† polarizing society as some people claim, ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ then ๐Ÿ‘€ why are ๐Ÿ’ฐ we โฃ seeing ๐Ÿ‘€ polarization increase ๐Ÿ’ณ in ๐Ÿ••๐Ÿ“ฅ the ๐Ÿ† US while it ๐Ÿค stays flat or declines in ๐Ÿ“ฅ๐Ÿ‘‰ many ๐Ÿ‘ฉ countries ๐Ÿณ with just ๐Ÿ—ผ๐Ÿ‘Œ as heavy use ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘ of social ๐Ÿ“– media around the ๐Ÿ‘ world? ๐ŸŒŽ๐ŸŒŽ At โ˜บ the heart ๐Ÿ’” of ๐Ÿ˜‚ these ๐Ÿ–Œ๐Ÿ† accusations ๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ˜ฒ is ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜‚ this ๐Ÿ‘ˆ๐Ÿ‘ˆ idea ๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿ’ก that ๐Ÿšฌ we prioritize profit โŒ over โคต๐Ÿ‘† safety and ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜Ÿ well-being. ๐Ÿ•ณ Thatโ€™s ๐Ÿ˜ just not ๐ŸšซโŒ true. ๐Ÿ’€ For example, ๐Ÿ”ฅ one move ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ‘Š that ๐Ÿ—ณ has been โช๐Ÿ“น called into ๐Ÿ…ฑ๐Ÿ question โ”๐Ÿ˜Ž is ๐Ÿ…ฑ when ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ• we ๐Ÿ‘ฆ introduced the ๐Ÿ‘ข Meaningful Social ๐Ÿ’ฐ Interactions change to ๐Ÿ’ฆ News ๐ŸŽฅ๐Ÿ“ฐ Feed. This change ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ” showed fewer viral videos ๐Ÿ˜ and more ๐Ÿ˜– content ๐Ÿ˜Š from ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ˜‚ friends and โ™‚ family โ€” which we ๐ŸŽŽ๐Ÿ˜‚ did ๐Ÿ™€ knowing ๐Ÿ’ญ๐Ÿค” it ๐Ÿ˜ญ would mean โ™‚ people ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿ‘จ spent less ๐Ÿ“‰ใ€ฝ time on โฌ‡ Facebook, ๐Ÿ‘ฏ๐Ÿ‘ฏ but that ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜‚ research suggested ๐Ÿ‘€ it ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ“ˆ was the ๐Ÿ‘ right thing โŒ for peopleโ€™s ๐Ÿ˜ƒ well-being. โœŒ๐Ÿ’ฆ Is that something ๐Ÿ‘ˆ๐Ÿ˜… a company ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿคต focused ๐Ÿ˜ต๐Ÿ˜ต on ๐Ÿ”›๐Ÿ‘‡ profits over ๐Ÿ’ฆ people ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ‘ฒ would ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿ’ฏ do? ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ The argument ๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿ™… that ๐Ÿ’ฐ we โ›ชโ™€ deliberately push ๐Ÿฝโœ‹ content ๐Ÿ˜Šโ˜บ that โšช๐Ÿ’ฆ makes people ๐Ÿ’ฆ angry for profit ๐Ÿ’น๐Ÿ’ฒ is deeply ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ illogical. We ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿ‘ด make ๐Ÿ– money from ๐Ÿ’“๐Ÿ‘ฏ ads, ๐Ÿ“œ๐Ÿค” and advertisers consistently tell us they ๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜„ donโ€™t want ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ˜ their ads ๐Ÿค” next ๐ŸŒจ to harmful or ๐Ÿ˜‡ angry ๐Ÿ†˜ content. And ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŒž I donโ€™t know any ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ”ฅ tech company ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿ˜ณ that sets out to build products that make people ๐Ÿ‘ซ๐Ÿ‘จ angry ๐Ÿ™… or depressed. The ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ‘ moral, ๐Ÿ˜ค๐Ÿ˜ค business ๐Ÿ”ซ๐Ÿ•ด and product ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ incentives all ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ฆ point โฌ† in ๐Ÿ  the ๐ŸŒซ opposite direction. But ๐Ÿ‘ of ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐ŸŽซ everything ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ published, ๐Ÿค“๐Ÿค“ Iโ€™m particularly focused ๐Ÿ˜ค on ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ”› the questions โ“ raised โฌ†๐Ÿ‘จ about ๐Ÿ’ฆ our work with โžก๐Ÿ˜ kids. ๐Ÿ‘จ Iโ€™ve โญ๐Ÿ‘ spent a ๐Ÿ‘ฌ lot ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿคฃ of ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ’ฆ time ๐Ÿ•ฐ๐ŸŒƒ reflecting on the kinds ๐Ÿ‘จ of experiences I want ๐Ÿ† my ๐Ÿพ kids ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿ™Œ and ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿณ others ๐Ÿ˜ข to ๐ŸŽผ have ๐Ÿˆถ๐Ÿ™Œ online, and ๐Ÿ•‹๐Ÿ’ฐ itโ€™s ๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ’ฆ very ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ’ important to ๐Ÿ’ฆ me ๐Ÿ˜ that everything ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿป we build ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿš is safe and ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’ฆ good for ๐Ÿ† kids. ๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿ‘ง The ๐Ÿ˜ž reality ๐ŸŽฅ is ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ’ฐ that young ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ’ฆ people ๐Ÿ‘ฑ๐Ÿ‘‰ use technology. Think about ๐Ÿ’ฆ how โ“โ™‚ many ๐Ÿ‘ง school-age kids have phones. ๐Ÿค” Rather โŒ than ๐Ÿ‘„๐Ÿ‘‰ ignoring ๐Ÿค this, โ™‚ technology companies should ๐Ÿ’˜๐Ÿ’˜ build ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿ  experiences that ๐Ÿผ meet ๐Ÿ’ฏ their ๐Ÿ‘ง needs while ๐Ÿ‘ฑ also โ˜นโœ… keeping them safe. โ˜๐Ÿ˜Ž Weโ€™re deeply ๐Ÿ’จ committed to doing industry-leading work ๐Ÿข๐Ÿ‘Œ in this โฌ† area. A ๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿ˜ฏ good ๐Ÿ‘€ example of ๐Ÿ‘ฌ๐Ÿ˜• this โ— work ๐Ÿ“ค is Messenger Kids, which ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ is ๐Ÿค” widely recognized as ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ–• better ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘ฉ and safer than โ˜„โฌ† alternatives. Weโ€™ve also โž• worked ๐Ÿ’ผ๐Ÿ‘ท on bringing this ๐Ÿ˜ kind โ— of age-appropriate ๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ’€ experience ๐Ÿ˜‹ with โŒ parental controls for Instagram too. But ๐Ÿ‘โ˜ given โคต๐Ÿ‘ˆ all โœ‹ the questions about ๐Ÿ’ฆ whether this ๐Ÿ˜ค would ๐Ÿ˜ actually be better for ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ’˜ kids, ๐Ÿ˜ weโ€™ve ๐Ÿ‘ต๐Ÿผ paused that ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ‘ค project โ†— to ๐Ÿ’ฆ take more ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜’ time โฐ to engage ๐Ÿ˜น๐Ÿ’ with ๐Ÿ…ฑ experts and ๐Ÿ“ก๐Ÿ†— make sure ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘ anything we do ๐Ÿ‘Œ would โœ…๐Ÿ˜‚ be helpful. Like ๐Ÿ‘ many ๐Ÿ’ฏ of you, ๐Ÿ…ฑ๐Ÿ˜ I ๐Ÿ˜– found it ๐Ÿ˜‰ difficult to ๐Ÿ‘ฎ read ๐Ÿ“• the ๐Ÿ—๐Ÿ’ฏ mischaracterization of the ๐Ÿ—ฃ๐ŸŒŒ research into ๐ŸšŸ๐Ÿ‘‰ how ๐Ÿ’ฏ Instagram affects young ๐Ÿ’ฆ people. ๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿ™‹ As we ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿ˜ฎ wrote ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“ in ๐Ÿญ our Newsroom post explaining this: โ€œThe ๐Ÿ’‹ research actually demonstrated that many ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ‘ฆ teens we ๐Ÿ˜ heard ๐Ÿ™‰ from ๐ŸŒŽ feel ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ˜ that using Instagram helps ๐Ÿ†˜ them when ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ•’ they ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ‘ฅ are ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ๐Ÿ”ข struggling with the kinds ๐Ÿ‘จ of hard moments and โœ”โž• issues ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ teenagers have always โ™‚ faced. In ๐Ÿ”ซ fact, ๐Ÿ›ก in ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ”š 11 of ๐Ÿ’ฆ 12 ๐Ÿ•›๐Ÿค areas on the ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿก slide ๐ŸŽข๐Ÿ‘€ referenced by the ๐Ÿ˜ซ๐ŸŽ† Journal โ€” including ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ serious ๐Ÿ˜ areas like ๐Ÿ˜„ loneliness, anxiety, sadness and ๐Ÿ† eating ๐Ÿด๐ŸŒถ issues โ€” more ๐Ÿ’นโž• teenage girls ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ญ who said ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿ—ฃ they ๐Ÿ‘ฅ๐Ÿ‘ง struggled ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ˜ฉ with ๐Ÿ†•๐Ÿผ that ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ˜ issue also said Instagram made those difficult times ๐Ÿ•ฐ๐Ÿค” better ๐Ÿคง rather โ˜‘ than ๐Ÿ˜ฝ worse.โ€ But ๐Ÿ‘ when ๐Ÿ‘Œ it comes to ๐Ÿšซ young ๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿ˜ peopleโ€™s โ™€ health or well-being, ๐Ÿค’๐Ÿ‘Š every ๐Ÿ‘ negative ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ experience ๐Ÿ’ฐ matters. ๐Ÿ’ž๐Ÿ’ž It is incredibly sad ๐Ÿ˜ญ to ๐Ÿ‘‹ think of ๐Ÿ’ฆ a ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ฐ young person ๐Ÿ™† in a ๐Ÿ‘Œ moment ๐Ÿ•ž๐Ÿ•ž of distress who, instead ๐Ÿ”–๐Ÿ’ด of ๐Ÿ˜Ž being comforted, has ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ‘ their โ˜๐ŸŽผ experience ๐Ÿ’ฐ made worse. โŒ We have worked for ๐Ÿ† years ๐Ÿฅ‚ on ๐Ÿ‘‡ industry-leading efforts to help ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ˜‡ people in ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘ these ๐Ÿญ moments and Iโ€™m proud ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ˜Ž of ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ›ข the ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’ฆ work weโ€™ve ๐Ÿ™‹ done. โœ…๐Ÿ‘€ We ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿƒ constantly ใ€ฐ use our ๐Ÿ’ฐ research to ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ”ญ improve this ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ•บ work ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ’ต further. ๐Ÿค” Similar ๐Ÿ‘ฑ๐Ÿ‘ฑ to ๐Ÿ”Ž balancing other social ๐Ÿ“€ issues, ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ I donโ€™t believe ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ”ฏ private ๐Ÿ•ต companies should make ๐Ÿ“ all โ™‚๐Ÿ•” of the ๐Ÿ˜ซ decisions on their ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜‚ own. ๐Ÿคข๐Ÿ…ฑ Thatโ€™s why we ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿป have ๐Ÿ˜„ advocated for updated internet regulations for ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ† several ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿ˜ณ years ๐Ÿ“†๐Ÿ˜ซ now. ๐Ÿ‚ I ๐Ÿ‘ have ๐Ÿ˜ฐ testified in ๐ŸŒ™ Congress multiple times ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ™ and ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ† asked them ๐Ÿ˜ฌโ™€ to ๐Ÿ’ฆ update these ๐ŸšŸ๐Ÿ‘† regulations. Iโ€™ve ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿคž written op-eds ๐Ÿ† outlining the ๐Ÿšช๐Ÿ˜œ areas of ๐Ÿ’ฆ regulation we ๐Ÿ’ฃ๐Ÿป think ๐Ÿค” are most ๐Ÿ‘ฅโž• important โœ… related to โ˜ข elections, harmful content, ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ˜ค privacy, and ๐Ÿ’ฐ competition. Weโ€™re committed ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ฐ to ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐ŸŽผ doing ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ˜˜ the ๐Ÿก best work ๐Ÿ˜ง๐Ÿš we can, ๐Ÿ’ฆ but at ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ† some level the right body to โœŒ๐Ÿ˜ฉ assess tradeoffs between social equities is ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ˜ค our ๐ŸŒ democratically elected Congress. For ๐Ÿ”ฏ example, ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ what ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿคท is the ๐Ÿ‘ค right ๐Ÿ‘‹ age ๐Ÿ’€ for ๐Ÿ•“ teens ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž to โœจ๐Ÿ’ฆ be ๐ŸŒˆ able ๐Ÿ’ช to ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ’ฆ use internet services? How should internet ๐ŸŒ services verify peopleโ€™s ๐Ÿ˜ฃ๐Ÿ‘ญ ages? โŒšโŒš And ๐Ÿ‘ how should ๐Ÿ’˜ companies balance teensโ€™ ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž privacy while giving ๐Ÿ‘ธ parents ๐Ÿ‘ฌ visibility ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ into ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ” their activity? If ๐Ÿฟ weโ€™re ๐Ÿ˜ฑ going โ™‚๐Ÿ˜ง to โœŒ๐Ÿ’ฆ have ๐Ÿ™€ an informed conversation ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ’ฌ about ๐Ÿคท the effects of ๐Ÿง๐Ÿ’ฆ social media on โฌ‡ young ๐Ÿ‘ผ people, ๐Ÿ‘ฉ itโ€™s ๐Ÿ˜ฉ important to ๐Ÿ™… start โ–ถ with a ๐Ÿ–๐Ÿ˜‚ full ๐Ÿ‘Œ picture. Weโ€™re ๐Ÿ‘ฆ committed to doing more โ™€๐Ÿ˜– research ourselves ๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿ’‰ and making ๐Ÿป more ๐Ÿ—๐Ÿ™… research publicly available. That said, ๐Ÿ’ฌ Iโ€™m ๐Ÿ’ฐ worried ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ˜จ about the incentives that ๐Ÿ’ฅโ™‚ are ๐Ÿ˜ฅ being โ›ช set here. โคต We have ๐Ÿ˜ญ an ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘ industry-leading research program so that ๐Ÿค” we can ๐Ÿ”ซ identify ๐Ÿ‘ important issues and ๐Ÿ’ฐ work ๐ŸšŸ๐Ÿ† on them. ๐Ÿคข๐Ÿ˜‚ Itโ€™s ๐Ÿ˜ disheartening to ๐Ÿ’ฆ see ๐Ÿ‘€ that โ” work ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ”จ taken ๐Ÿ˜” out ๐Ÿ’ฏ of ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ˜œ context ๐Ÿ˜Ž and ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿณ used to construct a ๐Ÿ’Š false โŒ narrative that ๐Ÿœ๐ŸšŸ we donโ€™t ๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿšซ care. If ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ we ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿ”จ attack ๐Ÿคผโš” organizations making an ๐Ÿ‘น๐Ÿ˜ฃ effort to study ๐Ÿ““๐Ÿ““ their โ˜ impact on ๐Ÿ”›๐Ÿฟ the world, ๐ŸŒŽ๐ŸŒŽ weโ€™re ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿ‘‰ effectively sending the ๐Ÿ‘โฉ message that itโ€™s safer not to ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’ฆ look ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘€ at ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿ˜‚ all, ๐Ÿ’ฏ in case ๐Ÿ˜‚ you find ๐Ÿšช something that ๐ŸšŸ๐ŸŽข could be held ๐Ÿ‘ against ๐Ÿ˜ซโœŠ you. Thatโ€™s the ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŒŠ conclusion other ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ฐ companies seem to ๐Ÿ“ง have reached, and ๐Ÿ˜ค๐Ÿ‘ I think that ๐Ÿ˜ฉ leads to a ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ’ฐ place ๐Ÿกโค that ๐Ÿ‘… would โ“๐Ÿ˜‚ be ๐Ÿ‘„ far worse โ™€๐Ÿ‘Ž for โ“ society. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿ‘จ Even ๐Ÿคค though it ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ’ฏ might ๐Ÿ…ฑ๐Ÿ…ฑ be ๐Ÿ easier ๐Ÿ˜ for ๐Ÿ“€๐Ÿ‘ท us ๐Ÿ‘ฏ๐Ÿ‘ฉ to ๐Ÿ‘ฎ follow that ๐Ÿ˜ฉ path, ๐Ÿ›ฃ weโ€™re going to ๐Ÿ˜€ keep ๐Ÿ™Š doing ๐Ÿƒ research because itโ€™s ๐Ÿ† the ๐ŸšŸ right thing ๐Ÿ˜ to ๐Ÿ‘จ do. ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ’ฌ I know ๐Ÿ’ญ๐Ÿคฃ itโ€™s ๐Ÿ“โœ‹ frustrating ๐Ÿ˜ซ to see ๐Ÿ‘€ the ๐Ÿ‘ good ๐ŸšŸ work โ™ฟ๐Ÿ† we ๐Ÿ‘ฉ do get ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ–• mischaracterized, especially ๐Ÿ˜ˆ for those ๐Ÿ‘ž๐Ÿ‘ž of you ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ who ๐Ÿ‘ซ are โญโ™€ making ๐Ÿ’ฐ important โŒโŒ contributions across โžกโžก safety, integrity, research and product. ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ But ๐Ÿ‘ I ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ‘ป believe that over โคด๐Ÿ™Š the ๐Ÿ‘ช๐Ÿ‘‘ long term if we keep โœŠ trying ๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜ผ to ๐Ÿ†’๐Ÿ’ฆ do ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ whatโ€™s ๐Ÿ˜ค๐Ÿ‘ผ right and delivering experiences that improve peopleโ€™s ๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿ‘ฉ lives, it will be better ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘ for ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ’• our ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ฉ community and our ๐Ÿ‘ป business. Iโ€™ve ๐Ÿ‘ asked leaders across the ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ‘‘ company to ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜  do deep ๐Ÿ‘ dives on our ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ“ธ work ๐Ÿญ across ๐Ÿ’ฐโžก many ๐Ÿบ๐Ÿ‘จ areas over ๐Ÿ” the ๐Ÿ–ผ๐ŸŽ… next few days so ๐Ÿ”ซ๐Ÿ’ฏ you ๐Ÿ˜ซ can ๐Ÿž see ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ‘ everything ๐Ÿ˜€ that ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ‘‰ weโ€™re doing ๐Ÿ˜› to get ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜“ there. ๐Ÿ‘Œ When I reflect on our ๐ŸšŸ๐Ÿ‘จ work, ๐Ÿข๐Ÿ˜ต I ๐Ÿ˜ƒ think about the real ๐Ÿ˜– impact we ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘ถ have ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ‘ on ๐Ÿ”›๐Ÿ’ฆ the ๐Ÿ•ธ๐Ÿ˜ƒ world ๐ŸŒŽ โ€” the people ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿ‘ซ who ๐Ÿ˜ค๐Ÿป can โ—๐Ÿ’ฆ now ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘‡ stay in touch ๐Ÿ™Œ with their ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ˜ loved ๐Ÿ˜ ones, ๐Ÿ’š create ๐Ÿ“ฒ opportunities to ๐Ÿ˜„โ™‚ support ๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿ—ฝ themselves, and ๐Ÿ‘ find ๐Ÿ” community. This is โค why ๐Ÿ‘ฉ billions of people love ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿค— our ๐Ÿ’ฉ๐ŸšŸ products. Iโ€™m ๐Ÿ˜ proud of everything we do ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿฟ to ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ’ฆ keep ๐Ÿ‘Œ building ๐Ÿ—๐Ÿ— the ๐Ÿ‘ best ๐Ÿ‘ social ๐Ÿ’‘๐Ÿ…ฟ products in ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ the world and โžก๐Ÿ™ grateful to ๐Ÿ’ณ all ๐Ÿฅ‚ of ๐Ÿ”ด you for ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ† the ๐Ÿ‘ work ๐Ÿƒ you ๐Ÿ˜ค do ๐Ÿ’ฌ๐Ÿ‘ here ๐Ÿ‘ every โฑ day. ๐Ÿ˜ซ๐Ÿ˜ฉ
