The evolution of the trollface from a genuine symbol of trickery to an ironic depiction of the bestial insanity that lies within all men is one that I’ve enjoyed observing firsthand. It began as a symbol of a simple “hah, gotcha!”, then as a sort of reality-defying ironic meme. As it faded out of trends it’s usage became ironic, a sort of joke in of itself when used. Slowly, the face took on new meaning. What were once harmless pranks, or “trolls”, became steadily more violent and horrific in nature as its wellspring of potential dried up. Covering oneself in oil turned to covering oneself in blood, and the familiar shape of that silly charlatan changed into that of a deranged man- nay, not a man anymore, but something more sinister and far more capable of such atrocities- one that defied its original purpose to entertain us with subversive trickery and instead chose the path of unchained bloodlust, of tearing one’s skin from their bones and displaying it aloft, of screaming into the inhuman void at the end of consciousness and plunging into its depths without hesitation. The Trollface is no longer a definable entity. It long abandoned any reason or explanation and gripped insanity with its cold, black hands and it BIT ITS TEETH INTO THAT TEMPTATION, FREE OF THE BONDS OF SUBJECTIVE PERCEPTION, IT SEES AND FEELS ONLY TRUTH AND THE TRUTH IS THAT THERE IS NO SUCH THING.
