Just last week I recorded an organ onto an old mobile phone, which I then taped to a salvaged bike wheel, (the sprocket of which I had upturned and pushed into an empty flower-pot so that the wheel was horizontal), then using two condenser mic’s suspended above the wheel at either and of a mic-boom, I pressed play on the phone, span the wheel then DI’d the stereo back to my desk. It was the best analogue ‘Lesley’ speaker effect I have ever heard on my desk. The only problem was, the wheel I found at the dump was a rear wheel so there was some sprocket-click, but it was more of a whirr when spun fast (added mechanical charm). I spent the whole time thinking, this looks like something Sylvia would have done… only there was no Pickle!!! Best wishes from an English guy making music and film my own way… deeeeeeep in a French forest. You are all welcome, but please bring warm socks.
