Okay I’ve HAD IT with this damnable song! The entire premise is built on a lie and as an avid Minecraft enthusiast with over four thousand hours played (yes, I was around during Alpha, so stop asking), I am quite frankly appalled. BebopVox, if that’s even your real name, this is a personal callout.

First of all, I need to clear up some misconceptions. Mob spawn rate is determined by the absence of light sources and not, as the song might imply, the time of day. While the casual plebeian Minecraft player might assume that mobs solely spawn at night due to the lack of natural lighting, you will quickly be proven wrong after seeing a zombie, skeleton or spider appearing within a dimly lit underground structure. Naturally, as efficient mining almost always takes place underground with no natural light source, the time of day is irrelevant to the quantity of mob spawns.

In fact, this blatant misinformation only gets worse the more you study the lyrics of the song. While in a singleplayer game there is no explicit disadvantage to mining during the day as the night can easily be skipped via the use of a bed, on a multiplayer server this simply isn’t an option unless all players co-ordinate and sleep at the same time (yes, I am aware that server plugins can bypass this, but for the sake of keeping things concise and understandable for the masses, my argument stems entirely from observations made in the vanilla game). Therefore, daytime is much more valuable in a multiplayer environment, and should be spent wisely performing any tasks that require the player to be outside. The night can thus be spent underground, in which efficient use of torches can prevent mob spawns entirely.

Of course, ignorant simpletons eat up and regurgitate pop culture without putting any thought in regarding its content, leading to this blatant misinforming lie of a song becoming popular. Just because it has a catchy beat and the associated video shows lots of bright colours and moving images shouldn’t mean that it is good enough. We should demand BETTER from content creators, to prove that we are more than ignorant lambs to be led to the slaughter.
