You’re ‘cackling’ from this?

I knew the state of current comedy was bleak, but I never imagined that something so unfunny, so suggestive of illegal ‘rebelliousness’, and so vapid could ever possibly elicit even so much as a slight turning up of the mouth from a living, breathing, human. Obviously, I have been proven wrong.

Back in the old days, everything was so much more entertaining. You had comedians that didn’t have to resort to sexual “jokes”, or “jokes” about illegal acts or substances. The least funny comedians of 20 years ago would be infinitely more entertaining than the most generally-accepted to be funny today.

The bar has been set so painfully low that anything done stupidly enough, or with enough idiocy to appear stupid, finds an audience to laugh at it, mainly because they have no experience with any greater humor.

Watch Johnny Carson, or SNL in the 80s and 90s, or Robin Williams, Rodney Dangefield, all of the comedies from the 60s, 70s, and 80s – literally anything marketed as even slightly comedic – and then maybe you’ll be able to develop a more cultured appreciation for how good we used to have it, and how low the bar for your satisfaction is now.
