Art isn’t for everyone buddy, it takes practice and, though this is debated all the time among art scholars to this day, many professional artists think that the majority of people aren’t born with “art brains” and therefore have no capability whatsoever to reach the levels that high-profile artist have. The theory goes that there exists a certain set of axons and dendrites (“neuropathways” as the laymen call them) that must necessarily become existent at a young age for one to be capable of exhibiting even a fraction of the hyper-advanced perceptual, spacial, and visual coordination and organization that professional artists have. The idea is that with these certain neurological genes in place, one can then foster their genetic abilities and train their mind to maybe, just maybe, become like one of us one day.

This is not a phenomenon exclusive to art. It is exclusive to all of the Great Disciplines. For instance, the same thing occured with regards to Beethoven and perfect pitch. Nobody who doesn’t have perfect pitch ever gets anywhere in the music world, so Beethoven, Mozart, and all of the other greats that we all love to listen to simply had a genetic and psychosocial edge (especially in upbringing) that others didn’t. How are you going to be able to know which note comes next if you can’t hear the note in your mind? Sheet music and “sight-reading” are cop-out methods that nobody who **really** has a sizable repertoire to memorize ever resorts to because it takes so long it’s simply untenable. People with perfect pitch memorize music with their **ears** (believe me I would know, I have it), not by recreating it off some sheet of paper on the fly because that’s just a cop-out.

Anyways, what I’m really saying is that it’s important for us to foster our own talents, but not to waste time endlessly within domains which we are not naturally apt, especially ones that are prestigious like those of art and music. Many people are good at different things. Cashiers should stay cashiers, waitresses should stay waitresses, and even beggars should stay beggars. But we, we will do art and create beautiful, beautiful music for the eyes and ears of the world. 🎨
