I recently stumbled upon the idea that Toy Story 2 is not only in the same universe as the first Toy Story movie, but is in fact a direct sequel.

The [Pixar Theory](http://www.pixartheory.com/) has already outlined the connections between Toy Story and other Pixar movies. These connections highlight how both animals and inanimate objects are gaining sentimentality. The Pixar Theory also explores the idea that Syndrome from The Incredibles is somewhat responsible for the life present in these toys. One thing stood out to me though. The Pixar Theory does not go into the depths of how the first and second Toy Story movies are related.

I did a bit of digging, and one of the first things a came across was the fact that both movies have soundtracks by [Randy Newman](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005271/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cr5). Now you may be thinking “hey, what if it’s just a different Randy Newman.” But I kid you not; the Randy Newman in Toy Story 1 is the same Randy Newman in Toy Story 2. They both have the exact same birthday, exact same birthplace, same career choice, and they even [look alike](http://i.imgur.com/UukGiZG.jpg). I believe that this is a strong connection between the two films, but it could easily be just a coincidence.

Next up is the similarities in the titles of the two animations. If we are to take all of the letters in Toy Story 2 (disregarding the 2), we can scramble them into the words ‘Rotty Soy’. If we rearrange the letters in ‘Rotty Soy’, we can come up with the title of the 1995 film ‘Toy Story’.

With this evidence and the Pixar Theory, it is quite clear that Toy Story 1 and Toy Story 2 are in the same universe, but how do I know that TS2 is a sequel to TS1? It’s quite simple really. At the end of TS1, Andy can be heard saying “Wow, a puppy!”. That’s right, that puppy is [Buster](http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_MwnH1kpbPRM/S_gip6QLGSI/AAAAAAAADa4/G5OrhYIvVsI/s400/vlcsnap-2010-05-22-10h58m34s141.png), the same brown miniature dachshund owned by Andy in Toy Story 2. If Buster is just a pupper in Toy Story 1, and Buster is a full grown doggo in Toy Story 2. This means that Toy Story 2 MUST be a sequel to Toy Story 1.

Thank you for reading my Toy Story theory! I spent at least 30 minutes looking into this, and I appreciate your time. If you have any information that can support my theory, please feel free to share!
