People using such superlatives as you did to describe artists who don’t merit them are hardly ever inclined to critically consider the people over whom they fanboy.

Like what you linked wasn’t – lyrically – awful, but to proclaim that piece as some masterpiece and evidence that the writer is “the best songwriter of my generation” is just risible, imo.

The song’s all right for a punk piece, I suppose – not exactly a high bar to meet – with grating mannerisms from the singer, and decently fine if rather puerile lyrics, but nothing more. ~5/10 tier.

Thus, to claim the songwriter “the best of [your] generation” would seem to imply a very limited knowledge of music.
