It’s a cool, 2012, winter day and you’ve just woken up to see school has been canceled for the amount of snow on the roads. you happily join your favorite Minecraft server and decide to go to the mine. after some mining, you finally found those 2 more diamonds you needed for that enchantment table. after trying to reach the surface from your cave, you realize that you are lost. Trying to trace your footsteps, you make it to the surface. You realize it’s night time, and that mobs are lurking. You find your way back to your house only to get blown up by a creeper. Frustrated, but not defeated, you set back out to get your items. After a nice 2 minutes of frantic searching, you find the crater you died at, and collect your stuff. At home, you eat some steak after your hunger was depleted from running around. You finally make that enchantment table after some nice steak. You put in your diamond sword only to realize there is another spot missing for the lapis lazuli. You look back in your chest(s). To your avail, you find no lapis. Looks like it’s back to the mine for you.

After exploring the mines, you decide, “I need a pet!”. The only pet you wanted was an ocelot. You decide to create a boat to travel the vast ocean and find a jungle biome. Not knowing how long this would truly take, you get caught in the middle of the sea at night. With no option, you must wait it out. It is lonely at sea, but you must wait. Finally, day approaches, and you spot a bright green grassland littered with big trees and dangling vines. You now realize your next objective, fish. You fish for about half the day, getting 6 raw fish. Into the jungle you go, passing obstacles and tough terrain. Through the green, you see a moving blur of yellow. Then, you see it, the one thing you hope for. You sneak up to it, not wanting to scare it. You’re close, almost there, just a little bit more, now! You tame the ocelot. Feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment, you return home to your little sanctuary know as your house, a new pet by your side.

You log onto your favorite Minecraft server the next day after school. Your best friend happens to be online, and you message them. You’re so happy to talk to them again. It’s been two days since the last time you talked. You two have a blast talking and building things that express your creativity and imagination. You decide you should take on a more ambitious project, and tell your best friend. They agree and are totally excited! You start planning but get caught up in a conversation, talking about things that made you two smile. Unfortunately, before you can really start building, your friend has to go. They say their mother needed them for something.

“Hey, want to finish the small town tomorrow?” You ask.

“Yeah of course! What time will you get home from school?” They respond and ask in return.

“Probably around 3:30.” You answer.

“Ok, see you tomorrow!” They tell you before logging off. You’re excited to finish what you had been planning for almost 4 hours.

 \- last online: 14 days ago –

You continue checking every day, waiting for them to log on. But they never do. Days pass- they turn into weeks. You couldn’t bring yourself to finish the town without them. You wait impatiently for a month- waiting to talk to your best friend again. Waiting to finish the town with them. Waiting to finally have fun on the server again. But to your heart-breaking disappointment, that day never comes. You lose interest in the server, and ultimately the game entirely, knowing you won’t get to see your best friend again- knowing the memories you’ll be reminded of. You decide to leave it all in your past. You try to forget about the game; about the friend you lost that one day back in the Winter of 2012. You don’t log on anymore. You leave your worlds untouched. – As for your friend, their mother wanted them only to clean their room. Unfortunately, the next day they broke their wrist. They were unable to play until it healed. They log back online to see you were last online a month ago. They’re devastated. They feel just how you felt. And so they leave the server and their worlds behind. Not wanting to remember how sad they were when you left.

All the worlds you left behind are still there. The builds you left untouched for years are there. Your ocelot is still waiting for you to come back home.
