This sub is kinda my safe space hence why I’m asking on here even though I know it’s not directly related to women’s issues. Although…. to be fair, twitter’s friendly little chirpy blue bird being replaced by a hard, edgy black X does push a certain kind of dude bro energy.

I know twitter gets a lot of hate for being toxic, but I’ve basically used it for the entirety of my teenage years and young adulthood. I was never a big fan of social media but I liked the text-based approach, it felt a little like reddit in that sense, except shorter form. I had a small group of friends/community on there and I basically used it as a personal journal. I also liked seeing art and content from niche communities. I’ve been using it on and off for almost 10+ years now.

As funny as it is making fun of Musk for being stupid, I just feel kind of sad to see Twitter fall in this way. The website was founded all the way back in 2006. It was before tech became this very money-hungry, algorithm-centric shitshow. It just makes me so sad. The iconic blue bird, tweets, retweets…. I know it’s just a brand, but seeing something that was so thoroughly integrated in the cultural lexicon and have it be single handedly destroyed is fucking sad to me. Maybe it’s just nostalgia, or whatever. I tried to push through Musk’s ruining of the website but after the rebrand, I finally decided to step away for good.

I feel like the change of the lighthearted blue bird to the black X is just… bleak and symbolic of where tech is going.
