When I was in my first year at a new public elementary school, there was a kid that all the teachers and kids would give a nice warm hello to every time he poked his head in somewhere. His name was sunny. He was always showing up in classes because they just kinda let him roam around the school with his toy car that he would absolutely launch across whatever room he came to. Sometimes he had an adult with him but most of the time he didn’t. One day he showed up in my fucking neighborhood totally unexpected like 2 years after I left that school. I chased him down on my bike and told him to come hang with me and my friend. He talked to me and a friend about his classes and how hard they were. He said “ugh, they’re making us do this thing where we have to pick what number is higher in math. That stuff is hard.” We didn’t know he was in special Ed. I’ll never forget that. Later that day we told him to meet us on the golf course and ghosted him. He ended up trying to use the putting green as a bmx ramp and did so much damage that the green wasn’t fixed until the next year. My dad was the one who spotted him too so it was even funnier. He was PISSED at this kid and didn’t know he was special needs either. He just looked and sounded super dumb, not all fucked up or whatever. Eventually we found him in the neighborhood across from ours again and I told him how to get back to our neighborhood because he forgot. It was across the street. We used to never lock our doors and one day I came home to him playing destroy all humans on my PS2 and my parents had to convince him to leave. Good times. I wonder where he is now
