During the “Nirvana era” any guitar-based rock genre that wasn’t grunge, whether it be power metal, prog metal, etc. was crippled by the short-lived grunge fad. Bands such as Fates Warning, Crimson Glory, Vicious Rumors and Metal Church (not hair metal bands) all struggled to survive. Most metal bands temporarily or in some cases, permanently disbanded due to complete lack of promotion and radio airplay, and the smaller bands had no chance no matter how talented they were. I have a close friend who put blood, sweat, and tears working to form a power metal band similar in style to Helloween/Accept around 93′, and he was constantly ridiculed for being “out of style” and strictly for his passion for metal music. Nirvana and grunge fucking sucked. End of story.
Look, I have been singing professionally for my entire adult life. From the age of 19. From barbershop to blues. ANYTHING. I’ve sung lead vocals on McDonald’s commercials. One of my lead vocals played for over 10 years for a well known state sponsored advertisment. My training was extensive. Choir, sight reading, etc. My EFFECTIVE range goes from F# below low C to A above middle C. But, I CAN hit E below F#. It’s forced, but there. And that’s just my CHEST voice. My falsetto goes to F above hi C. That gives me almost 3 octaves. My point is this. If I say Ringo’s a 2nd tenor? Guess what? He’s a fucking 2nd tenor, nitwit. I know my shit. You obviously don’t know shit.
