Someone makes this joke on every other medieval art thread, and every time I have to correct the misinformation. Medieval European artists knew how to draw, and they knew what a cat looked like. The thing is, cat breeds and landraces were different then than they are now. Through archaeological evidence, we now know that the average medieval European cat would have had a face resembling a deformed human. In fact, the sight of a depressed, humanoid cat, or even an angry one carrying a detached, erect penis in its mouth would have been a regular sight for the average medieval man.
