To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rattata and Magmar. The Pokedex is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of Mega Evolution physics most of the moves will go over a typical trainers head. There’s also Ash’s “gotta catch em all” outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation – his personal philosophy draws heavily from Professor Oak literature, for instance. The gamers understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these Pokémon, to realize that they’re not just creatures- they are friends. As a consequence people who dislike Rattata and Magmar truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the brilliance in Rattata’s existential move “Tackle ,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Nintendos epic Red and Blue. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those one gym badge simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Game Freak’s genius unfolds itself on their portable console screens. What fools… how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Rattata and Magmar tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the Elite Four Champion’s eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 levels of my level 100 Pokémon (preferably lower).
