do you guys think 100 gecs laura les and dylan brady should be making songs about being a money machine having grown up in the suburbs of st louis? artists of color rap about making money because theyve been oppressed for years and need to accumulate wealth not to fit into some fetishized capitalist system and culture that artists should not really be a part of if theyve grown up with the comforts of a system that has left brown and black people in hell for generations, I dont think its particularly 100 gecs fault or anything but it brings up a thought about the intersection of capitalism and hip hop/ electronic music in terms of race and class because for someone like kanye or kendrick to rap about making money makes a lot more sense and is a lot more justifiable than 2 white kids from the suburbs of st louis to do and i dont see anyone but artists leading the charge against capitalism. not to say we dont all need money of course but white people have placed this system on everyone else for centuries so to continue this cycle in our generation and to even celebrate it as a white artist seems kind of tonedeaf. I could be wrong though I just want to open up the debate and see what people think
