Rics Bar’s anti-mullet prejudice is total discrimination. I’ve been told by someone at Rics that “at the end of the day, venues have a responsibility for their patrons and would rather prevent someone getting hit, than waiting to after the fact”.

How does my haircut suggest I’m going to hit someone? I’ve never even been in a fight. Prejudice starts with bullshit like this and leads to venues refusing entry to people for all sorts of stupid reasons.

Furthermore, after initially asking why this rule exists on the Rics facebook page, my post was removed by Rics after no explanation was offered.

I understand that there are bad people with mullets who may give the mullet a bad name. I understand that security guards have a job to do. But by this logic, will Rics refuse entry to someone with dreadlocks under the impression they sell weed?

Also, ID scanners were introduced to licensed venues in Queensland (including Rics) for the sole purpose of combatting alcohol-fueled violence by storing information from patrons’ IDs, and sharing them with other venues to ensure patrons’ safety. This means if somebody is unruly or violent in a venue, once they’re removed they may receive a ban on their ID that restricts them from entering venues with those same scanners. So with this useful technology at hand, why have Rics taken it upon themselves to impose this extra security measure, by judging the violent intent of somebody by their haircut? It makes no sense.
If Rics staff and management continue to enforce this, generalisation and stereotypes will continue to plague Brisbane, and ultimately Australia.

It’s safe to say I won’t be going to Rics or any other venue that enforces this bullshit until something is done.
