Lil Pump is a genius. Behind the lyrics of his smash hit “Gucci Gang” is a raw portrayal of the materialistic excesses modern human society and its effect on the individual. In doing so, he postulates that the origin of the modern first world epidemic of depression, which was unseen in previous history, is the result of a certain emotional emptyness in modern society, a society which prioritizes the acquisition of material goods and temporary pleasures above genuine human connection and a sense of community which was pervasive throughout all of human history until the modern era.

The title of his hit, “*Gucci Gang*”, sets the stage for the deep philosophical themes illuminated in the song. He is portraying himself as part of an elite circle of musicians who have accumulated material wealth to the envy of the ordinary population. However, this envy is based on a false belief that obtaining wealth, success and status in society is synonymous with obtaining happiness.

In the line “*I fuck a bitch, I forgot her name*”, Lil Pump instantiates his dissatisfaction with his sexual encounters, and makes a deeper point about sex is modern society as lacking genuine human connection, prompted by today’s technological advances such as Tinder, and instead providing cheap temporary pleasure which is ultimately unavailing. Lil Pump subconsciously longs for a genuine, conjugal connection with his sexual partners. Instead, he is only given the shallow feeling of the inside of his sexual partner’s vagina, providing temporary pleasure which dissipates immediately after climaxing. He eventually forgets the name of his sexual partner because he has no real connection with her.

In the line immediately proceeding, he says “*I can’t buy a bitch no wedding ring. Rather go and buy Balmains*”, and then shortly after claiming that he went on to purchase fine jewelery with “*ten racks*”, which further substantiates this point. Due to societal pressures, Lil Pump is lead to prioritize the acquisition of material possessions such as pants and jewelery above genuine love and human connection.

The lines “*My lean cost more than your rent, ooh. Your mama still live in a tent, yeah. Still slanging dope in the jets, huh. Me and my grandma take meds, ooh*” are perhaps the lines that touches on the deepest philosophical aspects of the song. In these lines, he implies that the rampant use of hard drugs such as Opiates, Xanax and other benzodiazepines in modern society is merely an attempt to fill the void created by the lack of human connection and a sense of community. Lacking these crucial aspects of human society causes existential anxiety and clinical depression in the individual, the use of hard drugs is purely an attempt to place a band-aid on these emotional difficulties.

Overall, Lil Pump demonstrates that he is one of the deepest thinkers of our time, his hit “Gucci Gang” stands as the most profound artistic critique of modern society and it’s great excesses.
