Man it’s all about technique. The trick is you don’t use the lid for lifting/supporting at all- the lid is only used to ensure the container top stays perfectly round, which is where the strength of the vessel comes from.

The REAL magic is: slightly curl your fingertips inward, under the rolled rim of the container and apply holding force there- NOT on the lid itself.

As long as the lid remains “slotted” around the rolled edge all it does is maintain structural soundness and … roundness. Works like a charm. Been carrying my coffee like a badass for years and never once dropped one.

Same principal works for classes of cans/bottles as well. You rely on the structural properties of the container and it won’t ever fail.
