That aside, Garfield is garbage. I hate to burst your bubble, but relative to Calvin and Hobbes, Garfield doesn’t bring anything to the table. It doesn’t make you think, and it doesn’t address interesting topics in a compelling way, or showcase much beauty in its rendering.

I remember reading Garfield as a kid and thinking it was kinda funny. But those strips were clearly designed like Family Guy is written: to maximize jokes to increase audience size. There’s much more branding going on than honest artistic exposure.

…Not that there was never any attempt at meaningful commentary in those strips, but the end result always had much less than Calvin and Hobbes at its worst.
