The thing I don’t get about Ratchet’s upgrade plan is he makes it no secret that he’s going to literally murder the poor for the benefit of the rich. The outmodes all know that they’re being searched for to be brought to the Chop Shop. Did Ratchet intend to just kill every poor robot? What would happen to robot society if only the upper class existed? That would in no way be sustainable. And what about when the rich robots’ upgrades wear out? How will they decide who will be sacrificed to create the next batch of upgrades?

None of this even takes into account that what we see in Robots as a kids movie is actually a full-fledged revolution, when Rodney creates a following that becomes an army against Madam Gasket’s goons. This is the kind of thing that will go in robot history books. Rodney Copperbottom will be remembered as a national hero. And what if Rodney hadn’t stopped Ratchet? Sure, maybe Ratchet could take over Robot City, but what would happen once word got out he was planning a mass genocide of the outmodes? Surely the rest of the robot world wouldn’t just let him. I like to think it would create a Robot World War. Blue Sky Studios, please make a sequel to Robots wherein Ratchet and Cappy’s secret bastard son Arnold frees his father and they attempt to conquer the robot world once more. Rodney Copperbottom would lead the army as the populace of Rivet Town are drafted into the Robot World War. This could even create the opportunity for a Robots Cinematic Universe (RCU).

Overall, the idea behind Robots does not make a lot of sense but with backstory could have a lot of potential. Thank you for listening to my TED Talk.
