I was once homeless. I had nowhere to go. To my surprise, l was invited to a job interview by a man. It was a job interview for Subway. That man was Jared Fogle. He was a very kind man, very good with kids. Despite struggling to make myself seem impressive, Jared had saw my passion. We had a brief conversation, where he described his lonely life. As I listened, I realised he was very similar to me. He just wanted a friend. Suddenly, a man came in with a gun. He demanded we give him the marinara sauce, threatening to shoot if we disobeyed. l ran up to fight him. There was no point in my life anyway. I heard the gunshot and closed my eyes. A large thud resonated. I opened my eyes. Jared was on the floor. He took the bullet for me. In anger, l grabbed the shooter and knocked him unconscious. After l tied him up, I held Jared in my arms I cried “please, don’t leave after everything we have been through”. Jared put his hand up to wipe away my tears. He opened his mouth to speak. This is it. These were going to be his last ever words. “You’re hired.”
