[1. American Idiot] American Idiot is a punk rock concept album released in 2004 by the band Green Day. It follows the story of the main protagonist, the Jesus of Suburbia, and his alter-ego, Saint Jimmy. [2. Jesus of Suburbia (I. Jesus II. City of the Dead III. I Don’t Care IV. Dearly Beloved V. Tales From Another Broken Home)] Jesus, let’s call him John, is a low life narcissistic teenager, raised on a diet of soda pop and ritalin, constantly living life dangerously, his mother confronts him about his rage fueled lifestyle. This makes John angry, and he decides to run away with 3 of his friends. One of which, decides not to go with him as he discovers that his ex girlfriend is carrying his child, and wants to get back together with him.[3. Holiday] John and his friends are living the life, traveling from place to place, gambling at casinos, making impulsive decisions, until their car breaks down, and his friends return home. [4. Boulevard of Broken Dreams] Johnny decides to continue traveling as he looks for his true identity.[5. Are we the Waiting] Still angry with the citizens of his home town, he dreams of burning the town to nothing but ashes. [6. Saint Jimmy] Suddenly, his impulsive, drug fueled, even more narcissistic alter-ego, Saint Jimmy, awakens and makes John make impulsive decisions, some for the better, some for the worse. [7. Give Me Novocaine] Under the control and manipulation of Saint Jimmy, John develops even worse habits, such as chemical dependence, and expands his ego.[8. She’s a Rebel and 9. Extraordinary Girl] John asks out the woman of his dreams, and she admits to having feelings for him as well. [10. Letterbomb] After discovering John’s massive ego and narcissistic behavior, she breaks up with John. [11. Wake me up When September Ends] A distant memory drifts towards John, a memory of him as a small child, before his father disappeared, making John emotional and upset. [12. Homecoming (I. The Death of Saint Jimmy II. East 12th Street III. Nobody Likes You IV. Rock and Roll Girlfriend V. We’re Coming Home Again)]John then realizes that he must return home because he will not find what he believes without close friends and family members there to help him. On his way home, he decides to get rid of Saint Jimmy, because of the negative influence he has on John. When he finally returns home, he is greeted with open arms, his friends, family, neighbors, even the people that bullied him in school, were so happy to see that he was back and alive. [13. Whatsername] They then proceded to ask how he was doing, with only one thing on his mind, John tells everyone about his ex-girlfriend, who’s name he forgot because of how upset and angry she made him and how long ago it feels like since they were together. John refers to her as “Whatsername”, explaining how he can’t seem to get her out of his head, and how he will always remember the time spent with her, but never her name, laugh, or voice.
