Sir that is a national tragedy of racism and extermination of cultures and peoples across America for some good old manifest destiny. Great you at least know about it but funny songs about the forced removal of people from their cultures is a sick butt for a joke song. The song was a crazy old English monarch filled with the typical run of the mill paranoia, the trail of tears was a planned and astronomically destructive path of combined racism, cultural wipeout, enforced poverty, imperialism, and continued oppression that is not to be joked in a wacky song on the off chance you can change the lyrics.
And that was before I took a glance at the actual words in this heap of insensitive trash.
This is not a funny joke. This is not a harmless song. This is sickening. The events contained within topics like the Indian Removal are vast and treacherous, not to be summed in a quick song posted on Reddit. This could be in good intention, but such are the stones with witch hell itself is paved. This is an affront and offense to the presentation of tragedies like the Trail of Tears. Using this as a “way to talk about it openly” is a sorry excuse for your lack of care to give up an ounce of thought to the topic. Ask yourself if it’s really a good idea next time.
The trail of tears and other events of cultural eradication are extensive and terrible. They are told best by stories of survivors and the rightful stand against such acts.
Again, this song is a lazy excuse for meaningful outcry against oppression of this magnitude.
