We recently had a trans woman come to my workplace for sensitivity training or something I don’t know I wasn’t paying attention and was too distracted by a random meme my bff sent me at the time. Anyways this dude starts going on about all the kinds of discrimination he faced in the workplace and I decided to give him a perspective he may have been able to relate to as he was the only trans person in the room. I sat up in my chair and announced:
“I know exactly how you feel. For instance, I’m actually black.”
The M2F was visibly perplexed by my bold proclamation, I thought that for once maybe someone would be able to understand my struggle.
I was wrong.
The trans replied coldly: “You’re not black…”
That cut deep. Like a thousand spikes raining down on my bbc, if my bbc was my soul. Is this the world MLK truly envisioned for us brothers?
I tried to respond with a reasonable argument: “Well how come a man can become a woman but a white guy can’t become a black guy?”
Now he was getting irritated, the Adam’s apple his doc forgot to remove was prominently visible as it bobbed up and down. An unsettling silence overcame the room, he was trying to think of something. “Just, just stop saying you’re black, alright? YOU ARE NOT BLACK.”
Never had I had I ever wanted to hit a lady so badly. But then I remembered that this lady probably still had a functioning penis and wasn’t tolerant enough to recognize me as my chosen race. It all happened so fast, I felt my hand sting as it struck the side of his face, this dude was wearing heels so he lost his balance and went down easily. I looked around the room, a room now filled with the shocked faces of two dozen middle-class cowards.
“What, you gonna whip me like some house nigga?” More silence. “Yeah, that’s what I thought.” I grabbed my coat and left without another word.
I used to to think the hardest thing to do in life was to raise a kid, or start a business, or say no to a starving orphan(all of which I have done). It’s not. It’s standing up for what you believe in, and who you are. And no one can take that away from you.
