Meh, it’s easy to say this in 2015 whenever you can go to the mall and buy that entire outfit in the same aisle but in 1985…yes, it was difficult in most parts of the world to find something like this.

Most people like you can’t really put things like this into context in a world before the internet where “style” has just become something that you google, buy and consume.

These people were doing something different than 99% of everyone else and of course they flocked together and had things in common. Just the fact that they listened to the Cure in 1985 (again, before the internet created made-to-order fan bases and generic, mindless drones).

It’s amazing how people try to rewrite history who weren’t even around to see it happen. Let me guess…you were born in 1993, right? And you’ve got history and style and music all figured out, down to a science! It can all be summed up in a meme and an ‘OMG LOL’ these days.

Sorry, chum. You’re part of a generation of mindless people who are more obsessed with spending money than you are with trying to create anything of your own or trying to find yourselves. And when you get edgy enough to look for yourselves, you never make it past google.

And I’m not saying this because I was one of those Cure fans in 1985, I’m saying this because more and more reddit is full of uneducated kids who get all smug because it’s a defense mechanism in order to cover up the fact that they know so little about everything that going beyond, ‘OMG LOL UNIQUE INDIVIDUALS LOL’ would reveal exactly how little you really do know about culture and history and music.

BUT HEY, YOU GOT THE TOP COMMENT! That’s like whenever mommy and daddy gave you a trophy for getting last place during all those years of baseball you played! Go have a beer tonight to celebrate!

BONUS COMMENT:

Meh, this is a comment from a kid who has never experienced the world in pre-internet form and cannot even imagine what it was like to connect to something (anything..music, fashion, art) without having someone shove it down his throat via social networking.

If you notice, these are the kids who have it “all figured out” and make smug comments about everything else.

They are exactly what they were designed to be by companies that market to them. They were literally created and conditioned by the internet and by marketing. They are nothing more than a demographic at this point, as mindless as a vegetable.

Not being sarcastic…it’s very common these days for kids to feel superior because of their virtual lives online. Kids who have never been to a real concert who stay in mom’s basement who think they have society figured out by being online 15 hours per day.

The best part of a pre-internet world was not having to be exposed to the lowest common denominator constantly. You found other intelligent, informed people and that’s who you were exposed to.

These days, you get online and suddenly it’s like you’re walking around in a gang of people who haven’t made it past 8th grade who see themselves as intelligent and informed as the intelligent people out there.

Honestly, the ignorance is so rampant online anymore it’s embarrassing to even get in sites like facebook and reddit. Just a reminder that the dumber someone is, the more important they see themselves.
