“Can I have some Oreos?”
Brandon politely asks for a snack, opening
this dramatic comedy as a simple video,
but as it progresses, the video becomes a
documentary of dysfunctional families and
the 7 Deadly Sins.
“We have Vanilla Wafers.”
The mother attempts to distract Brandon
from the subject of Oreos. Vanilla Wafers
are healthier than Oreos, and judging by the
mother’s figure, she has suffered Gluttony
once before and is trying to right her
wrongs through Brandon, making sure he
does not fall into the sin as well.
“But I have a craving for Oreos.”
This line reveals Brandon’s hidden Lust for
the Oreos. He feels that he is important
enough to deserve these Oreos, revealing
his Pride alongside the already revealed
Lust.
“Those Oreos were so good!”
Brandon’s father, the initial villain of the
story, has committed four of the deadly
sins: Greed because he kept all of Brandon’s
Oreos to himself, Sloth because he used his
idle hands to eat these Oreos, Lust because
he expresses that the Oreos were “so good,”
and Gluttony for eating every single one of
Brandon’s Oreos.
“You ate all my Oreos!” Brandon’s hidden
Lust and Pride have been pushed down
for too long. He shows Envy when his
father implies that he ate the Oreos. This
untreated anger and Greed (remember,
he said, “You ate all My Oreos!”) became
Wrath. His fury rings throughout the room
as his father basks in his glory. The mother
is silent, as she has given up, knowing that
the sins they have committed have doomed
them. Despite trying to prevent Brandon
from sinning, he became the true villain in
the end, as he committed 5 sins, and if he
took the Oreos for himself, that would have
added Gluttony and Sloth to the list, making
him irredeemable.
