So recently, I’ve been staying at my godmother’s place since it’s closer to my school and I’m due for a knee surgery so I need to walk as little as possible. Because of this, I’ve also been spending a lot more time with my 6y.o cousin. (playing with him, just hanging out, etc.)

A few days ago, I decided to get off my phone and see what he’s watching on YouTube (it was on the TV in the living room, so I wasn’t violating his privacy or anything) and was shocked and confused as to what I was seeing?

Minecraft animations, which at first seemed innocent but the longer you watch, the weirder it gets. Some of the many topics depicted were; teenage pregnancy, murder, kidnapping, branding on body parts, giving birth, domestic abuse, child abuse, etc.

This is FOR KIDS. And I’m so confused, because, the animations and titles, thumbnails, storylines, etc. are obviously for little kids, (I’d say for kids definitely below the age of 8) but the topics themselves are mature. (though I couldn’t imagine a single kid above the age of 8-9 watching these videos)

And before you say or think to yourself “maybe it’s animations for kids but with adult jokes so the adults could watch as well” trust me, as an 18 year old, I could not sit through 5 minutes of a single video without feeling like my brain is starting to rot.

What is their demographic? Most kids (at least, usually) don’t know what these topics mean anyways, is it to make them curious? What is going on? YouTube is flooded with videos like this.
