The first song i heard Carti on was Plug by Rich the Kid back in the summer of 2016. I liked everyone’s verses but for some reason never got around to listen to any Carti song as i did with Rich and Kodak.

Fast forward to early 2017 i came across the viral video of Lil Uzi Vert “dancing very suspect backstage” video on YouTube where Uzi is doing his shoulder roll while What is playing in the background. I decided to google the lyrics and listened to the song and immediatly liked it.

This was before his self-titled mixtape came out, so i decided to check out some of his SoundCloud loosies. Heard his 2 classic songs, Broke Boi and Fetti, and i liked them a lot. Started listening to more songs of his like Pump Fake, Lost, Heavy, Talk (ICYTWAT Remix).

I remember seeing the teaser video for his mixtape, the one where he’s in his car and Let It Go is playing. I was hyped and eventually his tape came out, same day as Kendrick’s DAMN. But i skipped DAMN and went straight into Carti’s. Location starts playing and the beat just made me feel like i was in outer space. Carti sounded smooth and calm and it complimented the beat so well. Then Magnolia came in, catchy hook and i remember getting the 808 pattern stuck in my head. After that it was Lookin and wokeuplikethis both featuring Lil Uzi Vert. I had already heard those songs since they came out a week earlier as singles. Hot take but i always preferred Lookin over wokeuplikethis. Let It Go was never one of my favorite songs off the tape but it was still good. Half & Half probably on my top 3 best songs on this project. Southside made a beat with a drugged out feel and it matches with Carti’s vibe. New Choppa is more energetic, with a video game type beat where Carti does a short verse and the hook followed by Rocky’s disgusting verse. Then comes on of my new favorites (i been sleeping on this one), Other Shit. Hit-Boy made one of the best beats on this project imo and Carti rides it to perfection. His first verse is amazing and the hook is simple but good. Top 3 for me. NO. 9 is mediocre. Beats good, catchy song but the flow gets repetitive. dothatshit to me feels like a worse Magnolia, top 3 worst imo. Lame Niggaz is also on my top 3 worst. Yah Mean although i dont like it as much this sub-reddit does, is still not as bad as the other 2 songs before it. Then comes Flex, a beautiful, chill song where Carti flexes on people like the title suggests but halfway through a unexpected beat switch occurs where we hear Leven Kali sing right before Carti comes in talking about his “baby girl”. Kelly K is a song where Carti shows that he doesn’t care what race his “ho” is. Good song but gets kinda repetitive because of having 3 verses. Had 2 is the last song on the project and sees Carti back on a MexikoDro beat. Repetitive hook and i never really liked the song. Probably the worst song on the tape as far as im concerned. With me only disliking 3 to 5 songs, i’d say this project is a 9/10 for me. Solid beats where Carti flows on them with no effort, catchy hooks and good melodies.

After his tape we got some features out of him throughout the rest of 2017. YSL with Gunna, Minute with NAV and Offset, Mad Man with A$AP Ferg and his appearance on A$AP Mob’s collab project Cozy Tapes 2.

Early into 2018 we got a bunch of leaks like Shawty In Love (which the finished version should come out next week on producer TM88’s tape), Supersonic, They Go Off and many more.
