After his hit singles, Please Sir, and Nice Butt, Grant MacDonald decided it was time to change his musical style. To do this, he decided to take a retreat on a ranch in Dallas, Texas, after becoming inspired by watching Brokeback Mountain. After staying for 18 days, he dedicated the album, Ram Ranch, to his time here.

“I’m just sayin’ this cause this songs cool, and nobodies annotated at yet. The word at, it has a Universal meaning. It can be whatever you’d like. However, its describing the location of where they are. They’re gettin’ as screwed. In ram ranch.”

“MacDonald is comparing the gay sexual intercourse that is currently taking place at the ranch to that of a ram wanting to “rut”. Rut is a noun that describes a phase in which male mammals perform actions that would help them find a mate. MacDonald uses it as a verb in this case, inferring that the homosexual actions taking place on the ranch are similar to that of a ram wanting to find a mate.

Alternatively, it could simply be a clever replacement of the letter ‘n’ in the word “nut”.”
