Bret Easton Ellis’s American Psycho is one of the most sickening, horrifying, and depraved novels ever published.

One of the tamer kills in the novel consists of Patrick stabbing a five-year old child, pretending to be a doctor as a crowd gathers, and killing him through inaction as his mother watches. He considers also killing the mother, but chooses not to, as it would gather undue attention. Afterwards, he remarks how killing children wasn’t as satisfying as he thought, because children have no history, and therefore do not bring the gratification of killing something that has reached it’s prime, has history and bonds with others.
