I had a really weird dream last night.

I had a dream in which I was in Yankee Stadium. But it was not really Yankee Stadium. It seemed more like a combination of Yankee Stadium and my house. And there I stood, for reasons not known to me, in the shadow of the bleachern of that great stadium.

I had a dream.

I had a dream in which the great stadium became filled with circus animals. Whether these animals came from a circus or a zoo, I am not certain. And, as I walked through the congregation of animals, it became obvious to me that I did not walk alone. I noticed that I was joined by my friend, Morton Walah, whom I know from law school. I do not know why he was there suddenly, but it occurred to me now that I had been thinking of him just the other day while going through some old papers from that time.

Brothers and sisters, I had a dream.

I had a dream in which I soon realized my friend was no longer Morton Walah, but was now TV funnyman Jackie Gleason. And the scene became not one of tranquility. No, it was now obvious to me that Jackie Gleason and I were in danger from a giant roll of paper towels. Why there was such an object, I do not know, but that toll of paper towels struck within the depths of our souls a raging fear, and we ran from the monstrosity as quickly as our legs could carry us. But we did not move. As mightily as we tried to lift our feet, it seemed an invisible quicksand kept us from moving them. We could not outrun the giant household item.

I had a dream last night.

I had a dream in which we somehow overcame our inability to move and found ourselves in exile in an underground cave. But it was more than an underground cave. It was as if we were on a concrete path in some sort of futuristic city. In this city they had flying automobiles, and people dressed in strange costumes. And Jackie Gleason was no longer with me. Now my mother was there. I do not know why.

I say to you today, my friends, I had a dream.

I had a dream in wich i was then standing high atop a futuristic highway, in great danger of being struck by one of the flying autos, I then heard a great bell told. It was a military warning siren that was calling my mother and me into our barracks. Somehow, I understood that, in this future world, people are called into their barracks at regimented times. That was the way things worked in the dream. What I did not realized at the time was that this tolling had actually been the sound of my bedside alarm clock going off.

My alarm rang! My alarm clock rang from a great mountain top. It rang from sea to shining nes.

I woke up and said “I am awake at last. Awake at last. Thank God, Almighty. I am awake at last.”

I do not have the slightest notion what my dream meant
