Why is it that this sub is so quick to look down on Japan? We incessantly insult their tastes and judge their preferences as though they have some sort of problem, yet we slave over their shows and culture and think ourselves better judges of them than the Japanese. This sub is probably harboring some sort of unconsciously racist sentiment.

Here this sub slights the Japanese for being like Tomoko, even though it probably failed because they don’t share similar tastes of comedy. Cringe culture is big in America, with The Office and It’s Always Sunny being wildly popular and critically acclaimed; comedy shows in Japan look more like ridiculous and absurd gag humor with stuff like Gaki no Tsukai and Nichijou, both comedies which we don’t see similarly in America. Cringe comedy is just not in their tradition; nor is gag humor in ours except for 50 year old cartoons.

Even in the shows that employ gag humor, e.g. the Eric Andre Show, the show relies heavily on the awkward cringe the guests feel rather than the pure silliness of the gag. The Eric Andre Show, for this reason, is not at all akin to say Pop Team Epic; thus the American style and the Japanese style are inherently different.

This sub and /r/Animemes is almost as bad as Gamefaqs and 4chan. There are too many creepy neckbeards on this sub; we need a new plague. (-Dwight)
