Phineas and Ferb is absolute genius. You need an outstandingly high IQ to understand it.

You see, the baking soda volcano is a metaphor that represents society’s desensitization to mediocrity today. In relation to the time span of human civilization, the greatness of yesterday is only the unrecognized of tomorrow, of course. One can put forward their best efforts yet never indulge in the virtues of recognition. Some go their entire lives to be relevant, but fall short of so-called expectations and never create a worthwhile legacy. But who decides the expectations? What must one accomplish to be “great”?

Doofenshmirtz is a notable example of unappreciated greatness. Of course, this starts at the science fair in the referenced episode. The young inventor builds an invention so complex and well-built, but somehow falls short of expectations from those he wishes to impress. But why? Because society must be spoon fed. So much so that a formulaic, cliched baking soda volcano reigns supreme over the scientist’s creation.

See what I mean? We have become so lazy and adamant. Gone are the days of working for your success, of fortune favoring the bold. Modern society continues to hand out participation awards now, mediocrity is celebrated every day at your local elementary school. Because why? Everything must be spoon fed. The bold are turned down for those who play it safe. No wonder heartless superhero and robot blockbusters and remakes are succeeding today. No wonder many modern content creators like Morgz succeed today. Because we are playing it too safe. We are expected to be the same, spat into the same educational system and never fully pushed to accomplish our true human potential. Why can’t more of us seek the original and inventive, and award them for their efforts?

Doofenshmirtz is defeated throughout the series. Again and again. You’d think they’d lock him up for a bit, look more into his inventions that glow hidden brilliance and perhaps push him in the right direction. But no. Because the majority of people today will always take the easy route, to celebrate what they understand and stay indifferent to the bold. Society will always pick a baking soda volcano over an inator.
