>I’m just pointing out your casual, unintended, and unnecessary racialism (not racism! Please don’t think I’m calling you racist!)
>To be clear, I am not accusing you of the latter
You absolutely are accusing me of this.
You brought race into this with your “bebe” comment. Inner city is not a singular race and suggesting so IS racist. I am calling you racist. Racialism is usually considered synonymous with racism, so I don’t know what kind of mental gymnastics you are doing here but 11/10.
Every part of what I said was intentional. Inner city school systems are awful, though I doubt you’d know first hand. Also, rural trailer park towns, I imagine don’t even have band programs, because again a(perhaps even more severe) lack of proper funding into our educational systems(or just the asymmetric appropriation of funds into them(because of racist and/or class specific policies). In many ways impoverished inner cities are WAAAAyy better off than impoverished rural towns because at least cities can generate enough local tax revenue to provide funding for their schools. Also, even the most impoverished inner city in the US probably has better infrastructure than an RV parking lot.
>However, this orchestra is actually a middling-at-best middle school band, so any perceived coordination is mostly accidental.
>Same sentiment without needlessly gesturing at social status by race, which is irrelevant to your primary point. Same as if you had pointed out that it was a wind ensemble band; in writing, these are superfluous details. But when racially tinged, they become insensitive superfluous details — or — superfluous details with an agenda. To be clear, I am not accusing you of the latter, as per my OP comment “I know you meant no foul.”
Again, YOU brought race into a cynical joke that was meant (in part, mostly to be funny though) to bring certain truths to light. One of which being that impoverished inner cities have shitty schools due to IMPOVERISHMENT, with necessarily shitty(IMPOVERISHED) band programs. To ignore this and try to make this into a racial debate (which you are trying really hard to do on r/funny no less) is actually an extremely detrimental attitude to take towards the subject. You are doing more harm then good, stop. You are sanitizing reality so you can feel better but that doesn’t actually change reality. It just makes you an extremely out of touch person whom would rather distract yourself and others from substantive problems by trying to find a way to be offended. Let me clue you into something, being offended is not the same as being oppressed. Inner city kids are oppressed, you are offended that you had to hear about it. Think about that.
Also, based on your preferred format of the joke (3) I can tell that it really irks you that people point out actual inequalities. You would prefer that we all pretend that every region in this country gets a fair shake when it comes to educational funding. THEY DON’T. You can’t address problems by pretending they don’t exist. Grow up.
>insensitive superfluous details — or — superfluous details with an agenda. Insensitive? What is more insensitive? Telling a child that their school is not as good as another one that is better funded and that they’ll need to work harder to succeed? Or letting them believe that their school is actually giving them the best education equal to all others? Let them believe the latter and you are helping to keep them down. How do you not understand that? Your grammar and spelling denote an above average level of education but your mind is really fucking warped man. Wake up.
Agenda? Shit yeah. I totally have an agenda. My agenda is to make people laugh, pointing out inequalities while doing so is an added benefit.
So let me end this by throwing this back at you, I know you mean no foul, perhaps you even mean well but, you hide foul things and allow them to fester. I don’t know you personally, but I’ve met a couple of you. You’ll derail actually positive conversations and make people feel like shit just so you can pretend you are better than them. You pretend to champion causes that are not your own, while detracting from them for your personal benefit. You truly make me weep for our entire species.
Also, I implore anyone else reading this to sift through u/HigherEdification to see what they are really like. Check out my posts too.
